Veteran's Day 2010

On Thursday, November 11, the West Central High School and Middle School staff and students observed Veterans Day.  Again this year, the WCHS Student Council and sponsor Mrs. Amber Leman, organized a patriotic salute to the Veterans in our community in celebration of all who have served our great nation.

With approximately 50 Veterans and their guests in attendance, keynote speaker Don Nedza, pastor of the Medaryville Christian Church, and his son-in-law Tony Blackburn addressed the students and guests and spoke of their military experiences.  Major Nedza, a resident of Medaryville and a member of the Army National Guard, is a chaplain in the US Army and has been deployed to Iraq in 2003-2004 and Afghanistan in 2009-2010.  His son-in-law, Captain Blackburn, is an ROTC instructor at Purdue University and was deployed to Iraq in 2008.

The program began with the Francesville American Legion flag corp presenting the colors. Next WCHS Student Council members presented a brief history and appreciation of Veterans Day. After Maj. Nedza's and Cpt. Blackburn's presentation, the students and guests were honored with patriotic selections by the Francesville Apostolic Church Men's Choir, the WCHS band and the WCHS choir. Finally local patrons Bob Wuethrich,  Bruce Wuethrich, and WCHS band director Alex Warren played a stirring rendition of Tapps.

After the ceremony, the Veterans and their guests were treated to lunch by the Student Council members.

Another GREAT JOB by the WCHS Student Council!
