2019 Summer Changes at West Central
As the students finish up their last day of school, I want to communicate some of the changes taking place over the summer in our district.
Technology Upgrades: Our district will be replacing our student information system, SDS/ParentLink, with a sleeker, more modern program that will integrate better with our Google Classroom infrastructure. It will improve school/home communications and simplify many processes.
Personnel Changes: We are in the process of selecting an outstanding new Elementary Principal from our pool of qualified candidates as I transition into the Superintendent’s office. Additionally, our Assistant Principal/Athletic Director has taken a position with another district. We are using the opportunity to re-envision our administrative staff at the secondary level. We will be hiring an Athletic/Activities Director and an Assistant Principal who will handle some of the secondary guidance responsibilities. We hope this new alignment will allow us to focus more on addressing student needs and behaviors to maintain a positive learning climate. We are also in the process of hiring new teachers for various vacancies throughout the district.
Facility Improvements: In addition to new musical instrument purchases, the band room will be receiving improvements, including a new acoustically friendly ceiling. Several classrooms around the campus will be recarpeted. Some of the original mechanical pump equipment at the high school will be replaced, along with other smaller projects throughout the campus.
Professional Development: Staff are participating in a variety of professional learning opportunities over the summer. These include more training on social-emotional learning, as well as other specialised trainings to meet the unique needs of students.
We hope to have these and many other small changes finished by registration so we can continue to offer the best education possible for our students and community. I look forward to working with you as your new superintendent.
